Minister John Mbadi and MP Millie Odhiambo say ODM will support President Ruto re-lection unless Raila is running
Aug 07, 2025
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi said that Nyanza region will support President William Ruto's re-election in 2027. Mbadi said on Friday, August 1, that Orange Democratic Movement party will form an alliance with President Ruto's United Democratic Alliance in the next general elections and beyond. Mbadi said that Nyanza region will only stop supporting Ruto's presidential bid if he backs ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential. "ODM and UDA will work together until 2027 and even until 2032. We will continue supporting Ruto until Jesus one day decides to separate us," Mbadi said. "The only thing that could stop us from voting for Ruto is if he decides to support Raila for the presidency. That is the only thing that could stop us from supporting Ruto's presidency," he added Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo said ODM will work with Ruto but the support in the 2027 election was not guaranteed. She said that Ruto could equally drum up support for Raila. Mbadi took a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing any potential plans to work with him ahead of the next General Election. "You see, the person who is currently calling us to go and join him in the opposition, when he joined the government, he said we can never get to State House," Mbadi said. "Now we are in the State House, and he is no longer there. Now that he is lonely in the streets, he is again calling us to get out of the State House to support him. Are we stupid?" Mbadi asked.
