Police seeking fisherman accused of killing 6-year-old son in dispute over widow inheritance in Gembe

Police in Mbita are pursuing a fisherman accused of killing his six-year-old son and seriously injuring his daughter following a violent domestic dispute in Gembe North location. According to area Chief Charles Ngoe, the man turned on his family after quarrelling with his wife over his decision to inherit a widow. The suspect, who works at Misori Beach, is said to have attacked his wife first, prompting her to flee for safety. Chief Ngoe said the man then assaulted his four-year-old daughter with a piece of wood, leaving her unconscious. He later chased down his six-year-old son and struck him with a jembe handle, killing him instantly. Ngoe said that the boy sustained a severe head fracture and died on the spot. The chief noted that the suspect intended to wipe out his entire family. The injured girl was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Security agencies have intensified the search for the suspect, while the boy’s body has been moved to the Mbita Subcounty Hospital mortuary.
