RICRAF ends in grand style with Kamasengre West win over Kaswanga in football tournament in Rusinga

The 20th anniversary of Rusinga Island Cultural, Religious, Sports and Arts Festival ended on December 31, 2025, with Kamasengre West Football Club defeating Kaswanga in a thrilling soccer match. Kamasengre won in a penalty shootout after drawing 0-0 in the regular 90 minutes. This was the team’s first football championship in the festival’s 20-year history. It was dance and ululation as the team celebrated the win over Kaswanga. In other activities, Kaswanga was crowned the winners in men’s volleyball after beating Kamasengre. In women’s netball, the defending champions Wanyama defeated Waware Central to keep the trophy Wanyama won in Ajua competition. Waware Central came in second. In the cooking competition, Kaswanga took the first spot followed by Wanyama women. Kamasengre West won women’s tag of war competition with Kaswanga coming in second. In the men’s tag of war, Kamasengre East won the first position followed by Kaswanga. Irene of Kamasengre West won the women’s pot balancing competition followed by Lavender of Kaswanga. In men’s swimming competition, Arnold won followed by Kennedy. Fishing competition was won by Evence of Waware Central followed by Thomas of Kamasengre East . Holding breath winner was the third year defending champion Patric Ochuth of Kaswanga. Wrestling was won by Odhiambo from Wanyama.
