SIX SUSPECTS ARRESTED AS POLICE CLEAR LINDA MWANANCHI RALLY IN HOMA BAY

HOMA BAY — Police have arrested six suspects, including an alleged gang leader, after an attack on officials of the ODM affiliated Linda Mwananchi faction ahead of their August 16 rally.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem said the suspects — among them Abdi Kasim — are accused of assaulting organizers and vandalizing property at the group’s Homa Bay Town office. Human rights activist Evans Oloo Gor was also injured.
The attack happened shortly after the organizers met police on August 4 to formally notify authorities of the rally. Interim coordinator Samuel Nyauke said officers assured them of full security.
But tensions quickly escalated. The arrests sparked running battles between police and protesters, disrupting businesses and transport across Homa Bay Town.
Despite the unrest, Commander Koilem says the Linda Mwananchi rally has been cleared to proceed on August 16, with security agencies promising firm action against any attempts to disrupt the event.
