Thousands attend Piny Luo Cultural Festival in Migori as President Ruto installed Luo elder

The fifth edition of the Piny Luo Cultural Festival officially kicked off on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in Migori County. The main event is at Rongo University. Cultural exhibitions are being held at Thim Lich Ohinga in Nyatike Sub-County, while sporting activities including boat racing and beach volleyball are underway at Senye White Sand Beach in Muhuru, also within Nyatike. The Piny Luo Cultural Festival aims to celebrate Luo heritage, promote unity, and foster socio-economic development within the community and the region at large. President William Ruto attended the festival. He was installed as a Luo elder. Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement leader Oburu Oginga Odinga were presented with traditional seats, shields, spears and other cultural insignia by Luo elders. Ruto pledged to boost development in Nyanza, promising to end historical marginalization and ensure the region receives its fair share of national resources.
