At least three police officers were attacked and injured by armed men while arresting five murder suspects holed at the home of the late former Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were in Kachien Village, Central Kasipul Ward. DCI Officer in Charge of Rachuonyo South Sub-County Daniel Muhuhi was among the injured officers. Police said that one of the suspects fled with a handcuff. The suspects are accused of killing Ben Ondiegi and Bruno Ondoro during a fight between supporters of Boyd Were of ODM and independent candidate Phillip Aroko. Tension remains high in Kasipul ahead of the by-election set for November 27 to replace the former MP Ong’ondo Were. Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem said the officers were attacked at the late MP’s home, where the suspects were hiding. The officers pursued them and managed to arrest five suspects. However, before they could leave, a crowd of more than 100 youths stormed the compound and locked the main gate, sparking a tense standoff.
