Woman, Two Children Die in House Fire Linked to Domestic Dispute Over Second Wife

A tragic incident in Homa Bay has left a family shattered after a woman and two of her children died in a house fire reportedly triggered by a domestic dispute over her husband’s plan to marry a second wife.

The woman, Veronica Akoth, 30, is said to have locked herself and four children inside their house before setting it ablaze on the morning of Sunday, May 31. The fire killed Akoth, her three year old daughter, and her one year old son.

Two other children were rescued from the burning house and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred shortly after Akoth’s husband and his mother left for church following a family disagreement. The witness said the fire started at around 9 a.m., moments after the pair had departed.

Local authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, as the community grapples with the devastating loss.
